Read from your browser on your own device. Some of it is deliberately vague — browsers round or hide these values to make you harder to track — so "not reported" is a normal answer.

Why does my phone's FPS keep changing?

Because it is supposed to. A desktop monitor runs at one rate until you change it; a phone changes its own rate several times a minute to save battery — 120 while you scroll, 60 for video, as low as 10 for a static screen.

What changes the number on a phone?

  • Battery level and power mode. The biggest factor by far. Low power mode caps the panel at 60.
  • Heat. Phones throttle hard and fast. One that has been charging or in the sun reads lower.
  • The refresh rate setting. Called Motion smoothness, Refresh rate or Smooth display depending on the skin. Often defaults to standard, not high.
  • In-app browsers. The browser inside Instagram or Reddit is a cut-down build and usually slower. Open the page properly.

Is my iPhone 120 Hz?

Only the Pro models have ProMotion. On a standard iPhone, 60 is the correct result and not a fault. If you have a Pro and see 60, check Low Power Mode first, then Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Limit Frame Rate.

What does touch response measure?

The time from your tap to the next frame this page draws. That is one link in a longer chain — the digitiser, the system, the browser, the panel — but it is the part a web page can honestly see, and a phone reporting 8 ms feels very different from one reporting 40 ms.

Testing a new phone against its 120 Hz claim? Charge above 50%, turn off battery saver, set the display to the high refresh option, and run this in the real browser.

How do I test my phone's FPS?

    Charge it first

    Below about 20% most phones cap the display at 60 Hz. Testing on low battery tells you about the battery saver, not the screen.

    One app, fullscreen

    Close split screen and floating windows, and open this in Chrome or Safari rather than inside another app's browser.

    Tap the target

    Switch to Flick mode and tap a few times. Input response is the gap between your tap and the next frame drawn.

A display cannot show more frames than it refreshes. On a 60 Hz screen the 120 and 240 lanes look alike, and that is the honest result rather than a bug.

Common questions

How do I test the FPS on my phone?

Open this page in your normal browser, press start, and leave the screen on for ten seconds. Charge the phone first — battery saver caps the refresh rate on nearly every handset.

My phone says 120 Hz but this shows 60.

Check the battery level, the power saving mode and the display refresh rate setting. Many phones only run the high rate for a fullscreen app in the foreground.

Does this work on an iPhone?

Yes, in Safari or any other browser. Only Pro models have ProMotion, so 60 on a standard iPhone is correct.

Will this drain my battery?

A ten second check costs almost nothing. Leaving it running for twenty minutes at maximum stress will warm the phone and use real battery.

Can I test a game's FPS on my phone?

Not from a browser. Some phones have a game mode with an FPS overlay, and Android has frame timing in developer options.
